Mark has 30 years’ experience of Further Education; starting out as a teacher of tourism and business before rising through the levels to senior management in 2008, and to the position of Principal and CEO in 2013.
Following a successful period working in the Midlands during which Mark led the transformation of a large city centre college from an inadequate Ofsted judgement, prior to his arrival, to a grading of Good with Outstanding features, Mark joined Cambridge Regional College in 2016.
At CRC, Mark led the merger with Huntingdonshire Regional College to develop one high-performing organisation for the people and communities of the wider region served by the College, based on the WeAreCRC values originally identified by CRC students. Student enrolments have grown every year since then, and stakeholder satisfaction rates are high and still improving.
Mark leads the inclusive, developmental and results-focused culture at Cambridge Regional College (CRC), leading to the College becoming a member of the prestigious Chartered Institute for Further Education. Mark is a Fellow of the Institute and has also helped secure CRC's membership of the College Collective and its accreditation as a College of Sanctuary. He was appointed regional lead for the Local Skills Improvement Fund and is delighted that CRC has achieved and maintained Investors in People Gold status. Mark is Chair of the Further Education Skills Alliance (FESA), a partnership of seven high-performing colleges working collaboratively to support the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor and address the skills needs of employers within this strategically important region.
Mark is a passionate believer in the value of Further Education; he is committed to raising skills, developing social mobility, and improving life chances.
